Sig 1/3 Scale Spacewalker Review

Cowl Mounting

9/8/2002 - I trail fit the cowl today.  I was relatively pleased with the fit.  The cowl shape conforms to the front of the fuselage very well.  This is often not the case with some kits.  I basically just used the fit, measure, fit, measure, cut, fit, measure, cut some more method.  Lots of Dremel work!  I had to cut several openings to accommodate the carburetor and choke arm, as well as for the sparkplug and wire.  I also had to cut a small opening so the fins on the cylinder head would clear.  Other than that, I stayed fairly close to the cowl configuration as shown on the plans.  Next I will align the cowl and drill pilot holes for the screws to attach to the fuselage.  The I will attach the dummy engines.  I will also have to do some "body work" on the cowl since the top seam is not smooth and there are a few pits in the cowl.  Will use automotive body filler (Bondo) for this task.

Picture Comments
9/8/2002 - Front view showing the airflow openings.  I am using a Tru Turn 3-1/4 spinner and a Zinger 20x10 prop.  The cutouts in the spinner fit the prop perfectly, so no grinding required!
9/8/2002 - The right side view showing the opening for the carburetor and choke arm.
9/8/2002 - The left side view - nice and clean.
