MVC-157F.JPG (69404 bytes) Attaching the 3/2" stock to the top/back of F2-F4.
MVC-158F.JPG (38780 bytes) A little extra 1/4" tri-stock in front of F2-F4.
MVC-160F.JPG (57180 bytes) The wing cutouts for wing tube and anti-rotation pins.  Notice no exit hole for the aileron servo leads........  You have to glue some light ply in the lightening hole to make a servo lead cutout....... So much for the lightening hole........
MVC-161F.JPG (37919 bytes) The infamous bowed stringer.
MVC-162F.JPG (48510 bytes) A close-up of the stringer at F3.  Notice that it has been jammed in and the wood crushed.
MVC-163F.JPG (49745 bytes) The stringer at F4.
MVC-164F.JPG (52746 bytes) And another view.
MVC-167F.JPG (43241 bytes) This gives a good idea of how much the stringer is bowed.
MVC-173F.JPG (50907 bytes) This is the brace that I made to go on each side of F3 and F4.  Notice the key slot to go around the stringer.  I made this by simply "nibbling" out the slot on my bandsaw.
MVC-176F.JPG (38374 bytes) This is how I installed the keyed brace around the stringer.  One on each side F3 and F4.
MVC-177F.JPG (38386 bytes) This is the cross brace I made to straighten out the stringers between F3 and F4.  Simply CA glued it in place.
MVC-178F.JPG (44297 bytes) After installation of the braces and the cross brace things look a lot nicer and straighter.  Let's just hope everything holds!
MVC-168F.JPG (85466 bytes) The bottom of the fuselage after cover removal.
MVC-166F.JPG (55814 bytes) Former F5 - everything looks nice and tight.
MVC-169F.JPG (51069 bytes) This is the rear of the fuselage at the tail section.  Well built and sturdy.
MVC-170F.JPG (43512 bytes) Another view of the tail section showing the horizontal stab guide tube.
MVC-171F.JPG (48914 bytes) More of the fuselage former behind the cockpit.  Very well built!
MVC-174F.JPG (37602 bytes) I think this is what I was supposed to do in Step B.4 - a diagonal brace between F4 and F5.  The acute angle is approximately 70 degrees.  See next picture.
MVC-229F.JPG (47686 bytes) I got an email from another modeler who is assembling this kit.  He talked to Jeff at Aeroworks and got clarification on Step B.4.  The 3/8" balsa should be glued to the longerons as shown here.  That is, they should be glued to the longeron and the plywood fuselage between F4 and F5, not diagonally as I originally did.   The purpose this according to Jeff is to strengthen the longerons where they are spliced between F4 and F5.  This is a little worrisome in my opinion.  But, now that I have it doubly braced via my first attempt, it should be extra strong here.
MVC-179F.JPG (42133 bytes) The smoke tank "compartment".  The tank is simply shown for reference at this point.  Notice the ledge I built to receive the access panel.  This will give me easy access to the smoke tank if need be.  All mounting points hardened with CA.  Will tap 8/32 threads for nylon bolts. Also notice the 3/4" tri-stock that I added behind F2.
MVC-181F.JPG (72670 bytes) This is the frame for the smoke tank compartment hatch cover.  Will drill mounting holes for 8/32 nylon bolts and the cover with Ultracote.  All joints and mounting points hardened with CA.
