Several members of the Richardson Radio Control Club got together on Sunday, December 8th at the Bratonia Park flying field, for the Red Stocking Fun Fly to benefit the Allen Community Outreach Center. This “fun fly”, as it is commonly known, was a one day gathering of the clubs pilots who came out to test their flying abilities and help those in need this holiday season. Canned goods and other food items were collected from each participant as an entry fee into the competition. The dozen or so R/C pilots braved the inclement weather to compete in two separate flying events, the Limbo and the Texas Two Step. Kevin Krebs, of Plano, the winning pilot in the Limbo competition, said, “It was a lot of fun and for a good cause”. “The area food banks are always in need of more food “, said Ed Terrell of Lucas, “ and it’s good that we can contribute in this way”. Pilots and spectators were kept warm with servings of chili and hot apple cider. Prizes were awarded to the contest winners and participants. “ I really like to see this club contributing to the community”, said Harold Walsh, the events coordinator and winner of the two step competition, “and we’re planning similar events for the coming months”. More than 50 canned goods and other non perishable food items were collected and given to the local food bank. |
